What are Everett Public Records?

In accordance with the Washington Public Records Act, Everett public records consist of data or recorded information generated, used, or maintained in the performance of a government agency's official business. The act states that public records include pictures, documents, writings, emails, audio recordings, and other data stored electronically. However, records that contain the following information are exempt from public disclosure:

  • Personal information on students in public schools
  • Taxpayer, personal, or financial license information
  • Investigative records, especially if disclosure may interfere with a person's right to privacy
  • Personal information on clients and patients of public institutions
  • Records that disclose the identity of witnesses and victims
  • Some crime and law enforcement records
  • Test questions

Everett Crime Statistics

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) publishes crime statistics for the city of Everett under its Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. The FBI's 2019 report shows a total of 4,332 crimes, including 341 violent crimes and 3,991 property crimes. Reported violent crimes include 40 rape cases and 87 robberies. The most and least common violent crimes were aggravated assault with 208 cases and murder and nonnegligent manslaughter with 6 cases.

Property crimes for 2019 include 498 burglaries, 824 motor vehicle thefts, 13 cases of arson, and 2,669 reported cases of larceny-theft. The total number of reported crimes was a 14% reduction from the published crime statistics in 2018.

Are Everett Criminal Records Public?

Under Washington law, Everett criminal records are considered public information. Residents may request copies of personal or third-party criminal history information. However, accessible details may be limited for third-party requests. When applying for a criminal record, members of the general public may only obtain conviction information and arrests not up to one year old if the disposition is pending. Persons requesting personal criminal history information will receive unredacted records. Interested parties may request criminal records from the Washington State Patrol (WSP) by mail, online, and in-person.

How to Obtain Everett Police Reports and Arrest Records

The Everett Police Department (EPD) issues copies of Everett public records, including police reports and arrest records, to interested requestors. Persons may request Everett police reports online, by mail, or in person. Requesting a report online requires creating an account with the Everett City Public Records Center. Interested persons may also request Everett police records by sending written requests to the EPD's Records Unit. How to Find Sex Offender Information in Everett

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) maintains an online database of all registered sex offenders in the county. Persons interested in records of Everett sex offenders may use the OffenderWatch provided on the SCSO's sex offenders page. Residents may search the database by providing the offender's name, address, city, and zip code. The database also allows interested persons to search specifically for non-compliant offenders. The search result displays each offender's name, level, registration number, address, offense information, and physical description. The offender's photograph is also obtainable. Interested persons may also register for free email alerts. Upon registration, the SCSO will notify the resident if a sex offender registers an address within one mile of a registered address.

How to Find Everett Inmate Records

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office provides public online access to jail inmate records. Using the SCSO's jail register, members of the general public may find inmates by name, subject number, booking number, booking date range, and housing facility. Users may also streamline results to display only inmates in custody. Apart from the inmate's name and booking details, obtainable information includes a physical description, court dates, charge and bond details, offense date, and booking origin. The result also shows a release date if the offender is no longer in custody.

How Do I Visit an Inmate in the Snohomish County Jail?

Inmates' family and friends must register online to schedule a visit. The Snohomish County Jail only allows physical contact visits for professional visitors, such as legal representatives, social workers, medical personnel, law enforcement officials, and other professional persons. A professional visitor must schedule a visitation by sending a completed professional visit request form by email, at least four hours before the visit. Social visits are by video visitation only.

Video visitation hours are from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, on Mondays through Saturdays. However, visits are dependent on each inmate's availability. Visitors must check in at the video visitation desk in the jail's reception area at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. The jail is located at:

Each visitor must present a valid picture ID upon entry. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver's license with a photo, military ID, passport, or other government-issued ID. Children may only visit in the company of adults. Each child must have a valid Washington-issued birth certificate.

Visitors should not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and should not carry any contraband items such as food or weapons. Furthermore, all persons must dress appropriately. Visitors who show up in revealing or otherwise inappropriate clothing may be denied entry.

Court Records

Snohomish County has a Superior Court and a District Court with branches in Everett. The Superior Court is the county's highest court, with general jurisdiction over all cases. The court exercises original jurisdiction over cases such as felony criminal matters and civil disputes over possession or title of real property. The original jurisdiction of the Superior Court also extends to disputes over the legality of taxes or municipal and toll fines.

Are Everett Court Records Public?

Most Everett court records are considered public and are accessible by all residents. However, there are cases where court records may be exempt from public disclosure. For instance, juvenile court records are not open to the general public. Also, residents may not gain access to records that have been sealed or expunged by court order. Courts may also prevent disclosure of a record if it contains information that is sensitive or private.

Can You Look up an Everett Court Case Online?

Interested parties may gain online access to Everett court case records from the Washington State Digital Archives. The user must provide a case number or a date range for the case year. In-person requestors may visit the clerk's office in Room M-206 at the above address. Requesters may visit the public access area to view court records for free. The clerk's office allows interested persons to print copies of desired records found, at the same rate for mail requests. In-person requestors may pay with money orders, checks, or cash. Payment with a debit or credit card requires a valid photo ID.

To obtain a District Court record, send a completed request for records form or visit in person. A certified copy costs $5 for the first page and $1 for each additional page. Non-certified copies cost 50 cents per page.

What are Everett Vital Records?

Everett vital records are records created and maintained by the government, which contain recorded information on life events in the city. Everett vital records include divorce records, marriage records, birth records, and death records. Starting January 1, 2021, a new vital records law will be adopted in Washington. Under the new law, access to birth and death certificates is restricted to the subject of the record, immediate family members, legal representatives, and persons otherwise authorized to receive the records. Request fees will also increase to $25 per copy.

Where and How to Get Public Everett Marriage Records

The Snohomish County Auditor Services maintains Everett marriage records and issues copies to interested requestors. Each unofficial copy of a marriage certificate costs $1, while a certified copy costs $3. The Auditor's Office may charge an additional $8 to search for any marriage record before 1976. Marriage records are requestable by mail, phone, and online.

The Snohomish Health District provides public access to Everett birth records. Everett birth records may be requested by mail and in person. To request by mail, record seekers will need to complete a birth certificate application with the registrant's full name, date and city of birth, current age, and the full names of both parents. Anyone may obtain Everett death records from the Snohomish Health District until January 1, 2021, when new rules are adopted. Following this adoption, access to Everett death records will be restricted to the registrant, immediate family members, and official representatives of eligible persons. To order an Everett death record by mail, interested parties must complete the death certificate order form. Fill the form with the full name of the decedent and the date and place of death.
